David Fairs ▲
David founded Langdale Walking Holidays in 1991 with a trek to Nepal and since then the company has expanded to offer walking holidays with a touch of adventure to some of the most spectacular and beautiful destinations the world has to offer.
David's taste for adventure began in the British Army where he gained experience in expedition leadership with trips to Canada and Norway, as well as leading a several month long kayak trip down the Nile in Sudan.
He decided to put this experience to good use and embarked on a second career in the travel business, joining a major UK travel company as their Overseas Manager. Then when he was Managing Director of Langdale Leisure Ltd, an exclusive 5-star resort in the English Lake District, David hit upon the idea of organising holidays combining high quality accommodation, walking and exciting activities with a touch of adventure - Langdale Walking Holidays was born.
David continues to lead Langdale Walking Holidays and strives to seek out new and exciting destinations around the world.
David is a Fellow of The Royal Geographical Society (FRGS).
Amanda Green ▲
After the hustle and bustle of London and a 10 year career in the Wine Industry, Amanda decided to move back up to the Lake District to indulge her passion for long distance walking and cycle touring.
Being able to just walk out of her front door and hike over the fells gives her that amazing sense of freedom we all crave. Amanda's passion for trekking has taken her to North America, South Africa and Japan.
Travel is part of Amanda's life having lived in North America, the Middle East and Europe. She loves the experience of meeting new people and discovering new places.
Passionate about cycle touring, some of her adventures include cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats and London to Paris.
Her love of walking, wine, adventure and good company makes her right at home on a Langdale holiday.
Lesley Houfe ▲
Lesley's travel adventures started after university when she worked abroad in Germany and Australia. She took the opportunity to travel widely in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, from Singapore through Malaysia to Thailand.
Since then, she has continued to explore the world. Destinations have included South America (Colombia, Peru and Chile), Africa (Kenya, Namibia and Morocco), Wadi Rum in Jordan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Vietnam, Finland, Iceland, the United States and much of Europe.
Her spare time is spent enjoying the outdoors, running, cycling, tennis, mountaineering or scouring the Lakeland fells. In 2012, Lesley completed Scotland's 283 Munros. She has summited a number of high altitude peaks in the Alps, Africa and Nepal. Lesley was the meets secretary for Leeds Mountaineering Club and has led a number of weekend events to the Lakes and Scotland.
Her cycling endeavours include tours of Vietnam and India. She is also a keen supporter of the arts.
Geoff Buck ▲
Geoff lives in Devon having retired from full-time employment in the engineering sector so that he could relax and travel more. When he was in the Royal Navy he qualified as a Joint Services Mountain Expedition Leader and then led expeditions in the UK and also trained young officers in "adventurous" skills.
Geoff is an experienced Langdale Walking Holidays tour leader - having travelled with us to Crete, New Zealand, Patagonia, Bolivia, Peru, Galapagos Islands, Morocco and the Pyrenees.
He has trekked in the Sahara, swum naked in Antarctica, canoed down the Zambezi, walked in the African bush, taken an adventure cruise around Svalbard (Spitsbergen) and done "snow activities" in Arctic Finland, as well as visiting Australia, India, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Ireland. He regularly walks on Dartmoor and along the South West Coastal Path.
Bob Helmes ▲
Bob has been escorting Langdale Walking Holidays for nearly 15 years from his base in the little known desert settlement of Bluff, Utah.
His almost unparalleled knowledge of the American West means Bob is able to regale us with the mysteries, history and geology of his homeland, Native American stories, old cowboy tales and hidden hideaways.
His experience of the areas we visit allows us to explore little known trails and areas off the beaten track. From canyons to deserts, and the stunning national parks in Utah, Arizona, California, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Idaho and New Mexico.
Every trip with Bob is an experience of discovery and adventure in extraordinary landscapes.
